~ A brief and probably inaccurate history of Halloween ~

Halloween takes it's name from All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day and Hallow Even, and is an ancient pre-Christian Celtic festival of the dead.

The Celebration of Halloween was originally the New Years Eve of the Celts ~ the Eve of Samhain ~ and they believed that at the time of Samhain the souls of those who had died during the year traveled to the otherworld.

They believed that at that time of the year the ghosts of the dead were able to mingle with the living. People gathered to sacrifice animals, fruit and vegetables, and also lit bonfires to guide them on their way, and to keep them away from the living.
